  • I’ve known Karl since 1965 where I met him on the Metropolitan Opera Tour. He is a mensch who I expected to outlive me way beyond my years. I have always loved him and still do. I look forward to meeting you, my darling friend, on the other side!

    • I am researching the life and work of NYC-based Pianist/composer/conductor Margaret R. Harris. Would appreciate hearing from anyone associated with Karl Porter and the interesting musical projects he was involved with. Thanks! Dave Schmauch 212 568-0164 call or text

  • I’m saddened to learn of Karl’s passing. Janet Wolfe and Karl attended my wedding back on 1975 at Alex and Henry’s in the Bronx. I have a wedding photo with both of them in attendance which I will cherish forever. Karl was the Conductor of the NYC Housing Authority Symphony Orchestra and the Harlem Philharmonic; I had the privilege to play trumpet in both orchestras. Wonderful memories! I will cherish the photos of Karl with the NYCHA orchestra that I have when we performed at Sing Sing in Ossining NY — Karl conducted the orchestra, bringing classical music to the inmates, an amazing experience for me. Karl loved to teach and he was so motivational, bringing out the best in us. He will be missed! How lucky was I to have known him and to be lead under his baton! RIP with affection.
